QA/QC FROM FEASABILITY TO IMPLEMENTATION

Proven experience in geosynthetic solutions.

Despite proven sustainability benefits geosynthetics are still often regarded as an unproven technology that is too difficult to implement or unproven. This distrust is a result of the gaps between all parties in the implementation.

We aim to bridge these gaps between designers, specifiers, geosynthetic manufacturers, and installers for a wide range of geosynthetic solutions to ensure your project runs smoothly.

BRIDGING THE GAPS

Where design meets the dirt.

Geosynthetic failures are rarely due to design error. They are almost always oversights caused by incomplete specification, installation oversights and the disconnect between the designer and the actual soil on site. We provide third-party verification independent of manufacturers to bridge knowledge gaps in the contract chain and ensure materials perform exactly as engineered.

VERIFICATION OF SPECIFICATION, INSTALLATION METHOD AND MATERIAL COMPLIANCE

Geosynthetics serve a wide range of functions when used within engineered soil solutions and come in many different forms and materials which most engineers are unfamiliar with. This unfamiliarity creates knowledge gaps at all stages of the engineering process from drawing board to site which can lead to problems from poor aesthetics to poor performance.

From a sanity check on your design and specification through takeoffs of all required components to ensure costings are correct and on site supervision to verify all materials meet the required specification, we seek to offer independent experienced advice to ensure the smooth running of your project

The father of soil mechanics Karl Terzaghi summed it up best at the 4th International Congress on Soil Mechanics in 1957: “Unfortunately, soils are made by nature and not by man, and the products of nature are always complex… As soon as we pass from steel and concrete to earth, the omnipotence of theory ceases to exist. Natural soil is never uniform. Its properties change from point to point while our knowledge of its properties are limited to those few spots at which the samples have been collected. In soil mechanics the accuracy of computed results never exceeds that of a crude estimate, and the principal function of theory consists in teaching us what and how to observe in the field.” words which were echoed by Dr William Powrie in his 2026 Rankine Lecture.

This uncertainty provides the challenge and fascination we find within the geotechnical field as we seek to understand how the ground will respond to changes in stress and groundwater conditions. Geosynthetics provide a means of engineering the soils response to these changes but in return add another unknown for most engineers .

CORE VALUES

The foundation of our advice

Experience

Expertise

Independence

Over 30 years experience in the design, construction and maintenance of a broad range of geosystems including 65m high reinforced soil walls, the first vegetated steep slopes on the UK motorway network and a wide range of complementary geotechnical solutions on projects from garden walls up to multi million £ infrastructure schemes worldwide.

A well known voice in the UK and global geosynthetic and broader geotechnical industry. Authored and presented papers globally on a range of geosynthetic solutions and has served on industry committees and had input into guidance documents for bodies including the IGS, BGA, ICE, ISSMGE & CIRIA.

Experience in designing, specifying and working on site with the whole range of geosynthetics in a wide spectrum of applications. Advice can be offered independent of product specifics to ensure fairness within the tendering process or can be tailored to a specific material that is already specified for a scheme.
